To set up Google Authenticator, download the app on your mobile device, log into the third-party account you wish to secure, and scan the provided 2FA QR code to begin generating temporary six-digit security codes.

Google Authenticator provides an extra layer of protection called Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Instead of relying only on a password, it forces a user to input a unique, time-sensitive code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Step 1: Download and Install the App

Get the app: Download Google Authenticator from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Initial launch: Open the app and tap Get Started.

Choose a storage method: Log in with your Google Account to sync codes to the cloud, or select “Use without an account” to keep them local. Step 2: Enable 2FA on Your Target Account

Navigate to settings: Open the website or app you want to secure (like Gmail, Facebook, or Discord).

Find security controls: Go to Account Settings and look for options titled Security, Two-Factor Authentication, or 2FA.

Select the app method: Choose Authentication App when prompted for your 2FA method.

Reveal the connection data: The site will show a unique QR code or a text-based setup key. Step 3: Link the Account to Your Authenticator App

Add a entry: Inside the Google Authenticator app, tap the plus (+) icon in the bottom right corner.

Method A (Easiest): Tap Scan a QR code and point your phone camera at the QR code displayed on your computer screen.

Method B (Mobile Only): If configuring everything on a single phone, tap Enter a setup key, copy the text key from the website, and paste it into the app. Step 4: Complete Verification

Check the code: The app will generate a shifting 6-digit number for that specific account.

Confirm link: Type that 6-digit code back into the website’s confirmation window before the timer circle expires.

Save recovery backups: Copy the website’s provided backup or recovery codes and save them somewhere safe. If you lose your phone, these codes are the only way to regain access to your account. How to Set Up Google Authenticator in 5 Minutes!
